Made in situ for Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal (KBBT) in response to Tan Pin Pin’s video documentary of walk walk (Singapore Deviation version), p a c e is a site-specific activation of the operational bus terminal, engaging in the time and imagination of this spacious way-point for nearby residents, travellers, bus drivers, and even those traversing the rail corridor.

The active bus terminal is a place of beginnings and endings, where daily commutes often follow the pulse of the city. Nearby, the Rail Corridor bustles with activity with joggers, cyclists and people, passing through the bus terminal as a waypoint. walk walk (Singapore Deviation version) is a film and installation about the theme of walking. Inspired by the commonplace activity along the rail corridor, Tan Pin Pin reflects on ‘walking as a carefully managed practice in Singapore, shaped by public agencies and private developers’. In the film, Tan Pin Pin, together with Amanda Heng and other interviewees, respond to the theme of walking through their anecdotes and lived experience. The artist further ‘highlights ideas about freedom of movement, how walking is a basic expression of this freedom, and how public transportation further supports our mobility.‘

p a c e is a performance centred on rhythm. It follows people moving in and out of sync, exploring how we move, move together and move with one another. It is an invitation to reimagine the act of waiting, walking and the way we move through public transient spaces such as the bus interchange.
